Hankkija-Maatalous Oy (Hankkija Agriculture Ltd.) is a subsidiary of SOK Corporation www.sok.fi. The company started its operations in 1988, when the agriculture-related and machinery business of the central cooperative Hankkija was transferred to the company. In July of the same year SOK and Hankkija formed Hankkija-Maatalous Oy as a joint company for the agricultural and machinery trade. In 1993 the company became wholly owned by SOK.
Hankkija Maatalous Oy is responsible for the development of agriculture-related trade and of the Agrimarket shop chain. The company's managing director is Ensio Hytönen. The Agrimarket chain's net sales totalled about 870 million euros in 2010 and the total number of employees was around 1000.
The company manages around 120 Agrimarket stores, 8 Agrimarket Machinery Centres, 87 Multasormi gardening stores operating in conjunction with Agrimarket stores and a John Deere Centre in Hyvinkää, which concentrates on equipment for green-area construction, golf course maintenance and commercial products. In addition the Agrimarket-chain is the leading operator in the Finnish grain market. We source around 800.000 - 900.000 million tons of grain and oilseeds from our contract farms and we are the main Finnish exporter of high quality milling oats, feed- and malting barley and also quality wheat. The Agrimarket chain's operations include two seed centres, located in Hyvinkää and Alastaro. The seed centres prepare certified seeds for spring grain, autumn grain, pea, turnip rape, grass and forage plants.
Suomen Rehu is the feed division of Hankkija-Maatalous Oy and operates under the Suomen Rehu brand. Suomen Rehu is a leading brand in the feed market and operates four feed mills in Finland, with a market share about 50% of the total feed market. The company also has a plant producing yeast marketed under the Progut® brand and a plant in Tukums, Latvia producing pre-mixes and mineral feeds.
Suomen Rehu also exports feed products to more than 25 countries throughout Europe and to several Asian counties. Our main export markets are Russia, The Baltic countries and Scandinavia, but we are constantly expending our operations in both Europe and Asia and we have been especially successful in expanding the sales of our Progut and Acetona products.
